Bread Baking Classes

We will be a small group baking in my home kitchen.

1. Introduction to bread baking

This is an introductory course to bread baking for the baking novice. In the four hours you will get to knead, shape and bake one wheat and one rye loaf, as well as a quick soda bread. In between the kneading and shaping there will be time to chat about ingredients and techniques. Lunch is included.

2. Learn to bake sourdough bread

This is an introductory course to sourdough baking. Baking with sourdough (wild yeast) can be as easy as baking with Baker’s yeast, all that is needed is more time. In this hands-on course you will learn how to make a sourdough starter, and bake one wheat and one rye loaf from start to finish, as well as sourdough crackers. In between the kneading and shaping there will be time to chat about ingredients and techniques. Lunch is included, and we will make some sourdough scones to have for afternoon tea.

3. German Christmas Baking

Come and learn how to bake the classic Stollen and Lebkuchen, as well as scrumptious Christmas biscuits. Lunch is included, and in the afternoon we will have a glass of warming Glühwein and sample what we have baked. You will get to take home a Stollen and a bag full of Lebkuchen and biscuits, plus handouts of the recipes with instructions.

Please note: two of the recipes will include almonds and hazelnuts.

4. Learn to bake Pretzels

In this hands-on class you will get to mix, knead and shape your own pretzels. We will be making the original pretzels (“Brezen”), as well as a savoury version. In between we will have a Bavarian style lunch, and you will get to take home the pretzels you made.
